Coiled Tubing fishing is crucial part of all downhole operations which involves the recovery of lost or stuck items, commonly known as ‘fish’, from within the wellbore. These scenarios can vary from simple retrievals to exceptionally challenging operations where highly experienced field operators are required to resolve them.
In order to diagnose or retrieve lost or stuck items, a range of tools can be attached to the bottom-hole assembly (BHA) and deployed downhole.
Tools such as Jars and Accelerators, or Impact Hammers and Intensifiers are commonly used to enhance Thru Tubing Fishing operations by generating high magnitude impacts in both tension and compression. Impact loads which are several times the magnitude of the load can be achieved downhole by the Coiled Tubing String itself. When combined with the Hydraulic Sling Shot, the K>Netic Coiled Tubing Jar creates impacts of 6-7 times the applied load whilst conducting surface qualification testing.
A wide spectrum of tools are used to perform multiple tasks, allowing wellbore to be cleaned, fish retrieved and safely returning the well back into production.
In situations where you cannot free the fish from the wellbore, or release fishing tools from the fish, lower disconnects such as Heavy Duty, Flo & Tension and Ultra Heavy Duty Disconnects can be utilised between the impact assembly and the tool. The inclusion of a lower disconnect is critical in ensuring the majority of the fishing BHA can be returned to surface.
